Nice One! As you're looking at this we guess you must be considering getting re-qualified for a new job - so you've already done more than most. Only one in ten of us are pleased to go to work each day, but no action is ever taken. So, why not be one of the few who actually do something about it.

Nice One! As you're looking at this we guess you must be considering getting re-qualified for a new job - so you've already done more than most. Only one in ten of us are pleased to go to work each day, but no action is ever taken. So, why not be one of the few who actually do something about it.

Before we even think about individual courses, seek out someone who will give you advice on which area will be right for you. An advisor who will take time to get to know your personality, and find out what types of work suit you:

* Do you see yourself dealing with people? Would you prefer to work with a small team or with many new people? Possibly operating on your own in a task-based situation would give you pleasure?

* What do you require from your chosen industry? - We all know that things have changed, look at building and banking for instance.

* Is this the final time you imagine you'll re-train, and if it is, will your chosen career path service that need?

* Are you confident that retraining in your chosen sector is commercially viable, and will offer the chance to allow you to work until retirement?

When listing your options, it's relevant that your number one choice is the IT sector - it's no secret that it's on the grow. IT isn't all techie geeks staring at computers every day - it's true those roles do exist, but the majority of roles are carried out by Joe averages who get on very well.

There is no way of over emphasising this: You absolutely must have proper 24x7 professional support from mentors and instructors. You'll severely regret it if you don't adhere to this.

Avoid those companies who use 'out-of-hours' messaging systems - where you'll get called back during office hours. This is useless when you're stuck and need help now.

The best trainers use multiple support centres around the globe in several time-zones. They use an online interactive interface to seamlessly link them all together, irrespective of the time you login, help is just seconds away, avoiding all the delays and problems.

Never compromise when it comes to your support. Many would-be IT professionals that drop-out or fail, would have had a different experience if they'd got the right support package in the first place.

Beware of putting too much emphasis, as many people do, on the training process. You're not training for the sake of training; this is about employment. Focus on the end-goal.

It's common, for instance, to get a great deal of enjoyment from a year of study but end up spending 10 or 20 years in a job you hate, simply because you did it without some decent due-diligence when you should've - at the outset.

You must also consider your leanings around career development, earning potential, and whether you intend to be quite ambitious. You need to know what the role will demand of you, what particular certifications they want you to have and in what way you can develop commercial experience.

Take guidance from an experienced professional, even if you have to pay - it's usually much cheaper and safer to find out at the beginning if something is going to suit and interest you, rather than realise following two years of study that you aren't going to enjoy the job you've chosen and now need to go back to square one.

Does job security really exist anywhere now? In the UK for instance, with industry changing its mind on a day-to-day basis, we'd question whether it does.

We can however locate security at the market sector level, by searching for areas in high demand, together with a lack of qualified workers.

A recent United Kingdom e-Skills analysis showed that more than 26 percent of all IT positions available remain unfilled mainly due to a huge deficit of well-trained staff. It follows then that out of each 4 positions existing in IT, employers can only locate trained staff for three of them.

This single idea in itself highlights why Great Britain requires many more people to join the IT sector.

Because the IT sector is developing at such a quick pace, there really isn't any other market worth considering for a new future.

Including exams with the course fee then giving it 'Exam Guarantee' status is common for many training course providers. But let's examine why they really do it:

Thankfully, today we tend to be a little bit more aware of sales ploys - and generally we know that for sure it is actually an additional cost to us - they're not just being charitable and doling out freebies!

If you want to pass first time, then you should fund each exam as you take it, give it the necessary attention and apply yourself as required.

Isn't it in your interests to find the best exam deal or offer when you're ready, rather than coughing up months or even a year or two in advance to a training course provider, and to do it locally - instead of miles away at the college's beck and call?

Big margins are secured by a number of companies who get money for exam fees in advance. For various reasons, many students don't take their exams but the company keeps the money. Amazingly, there are training companies who rely on that fact - as that's how they make a lot of their profit.

The majority of companies will require you to sit pre-tests and not allow you to re-take an exam until you've demonstrated an excellent ability to pass - which actually leaves you with no guarantee at all.

Splashing out often many hundreds of pounds extra on an 'Exam Guarantee' is naive - when a commitment to studying and the use of authorised exam preparation tools is what will get you through.
