Mrs Charlaine Harris was born 25th November 1951 in Tunica, Mississippi. She has been titles a New York Times best selling author and has been in the writing business for over 20 years. She lives in Magnolia, south Arkansas, with her three children and her husband. In the early days her writing career began with ghosts in poetry, and then she began writing plays and teenage problems. However, it was not until she began to write books that she really gained recognition. She published two mystery novels and then wrote the Aurora Teagarden Series, which saw her gain quite a bit of recognition and success. There were several books in this particular series which took her until mid 1990, and then again she came back to write more in the series in late 1990 until 2003. From 1996 she began to write the series called Shakespeare or Lily Bard as many prefer to name it. This began with "Shakespeare's Landlord" in 1996 and ended with "Shakespeare's Counselor" in 2001. In all there were five books in this series, and Charlaine Harris has said there will definitely be no more. Then in the same year she began to write her most loved and well known series - that of Sookie Stackhouse, or also known as The Southern Vampire Series. "Dead Until Dark" was the first and at the moment the last to be released was "A Touch of Dead", which is actually a compilation of Sookie-universe stories. The novels are based around a barmaid with telepathic powers who falls in love with a vampire. The story line is situated in a small town called Bon Temps in Louisiana. The first in the Sookie Stackhouse Series - "Dead Until Dark" - collected the Anthony Award for the Best Paperback Mystery and that was in 2001. To this day the Sookie Stackhouse Series has been released in many different countries in many different languages. The producer, Alan Ball (famed for his production of "Six Feet Under"), approached Charlaine Harris to ask if she would be interested in allowing the series to be the basis for an HBO television production. The first of this television series was screened in September 2008 and was named "True Blood". Although "True Blood" was a little slow to really gain popularity, there has been a second series ("True Blood 2") already shot and screened, which has been received very well indeed. Charlaine also started a further series of novels in October 2001 which were named Harper Connelly. This group of novels is based upon a young lady who uses her clairvoyant capabilities to locate dead people. There are currently four books to this series, the last being out in 2009 also.
